Kerastem is one of the latest methods for treating early hair loss caused by androgenetic alopecia (Female and Male pattern alopecia). This innovative treatment involves micro-liposuction and injection of fat and adipose stem cells to the scalp. Clinical studies show that after one-time treatment with Kerastem Hair Therapy hair follicles are stimulated resulting in thicker, longer and better quality hair. The injection of mature fat cells and adipose-derived stem cells into the scalp helps stimulate hair follicles and allows natural growth of hair.
What is Kerastem Therapy?
Kerastem therapy is a day case treatment whereby your adipose tissue (fat) is harvested by Microliposuction and reinjected into the scalp (autologous fat transfer). The adipose stem cells, are obtained by purification of the same harvested fat. The treatment restores the stem cell and fat-rich environment to stimulate hair growth. It is designed to help people in the early stages of hair loss to retain and regain their head full of hair. Kerastem is the first, licensed stem cell therapy for patients with hair loss.
What happens on the day of my procedure?
The treatment is a day-case performed under general or local anaesthesia. The first stage involves a mini-liposuction procedure whereby excess fat (obtained from the lower abdomen, thigh or hips) is harvested. Approximately 50mls of purified fat is injected into the scalp and an additional 200-250mls is then purified in the Kerastem system to produce an adipose stem cell rich pellet. The stem cell rich solution is injected into the scalp using a precise pen-injection system to accurately provide the correct volume of stem cells to the scalp skin.

How long does it take to see results?
Positive results may be seen within a few months, however, the effect of the treatment is best assessed after 6 months. Using the accurate TrichoLAB photo system baseline measurements of hair density, hair shaft width will be performed prior to treatment and at follow ups to assess changes in the thickness and number of hairs on the scalp.
